Mourning Doves Nest

A pair of Mourning Doves were busy nesting in the back yard this morning. The pair worked tirelessly and quickly to haul large branches and branches loaded with leaves to their perch in a tree at the side of our apartment building. One bird stayed in the nest to arrange and rearrange delivered material, while the other acted as the delivery man.

Here are some highlights from their endeavor, including a couple of fly-in and fly-outs.

Out to get more branches and (below) back to the nest and back out!

I’m going to have to try to catch, on camera, some of the birds that perch on the trees outside my balcony. I can hear them tweeting and singing and swear I saw some sort of red bird flying around the other day but I didn’t have my phone with me so I couldn’t really tell what it was but after seeing your pictures I’m now inspired to at least try to take pictures. Have a nice weekend!

It’s a tricky thing to catch them going in and out of the nest with just a common camera. I tried last Spring, but never quite got it. This time around, I aimed at the nest, while peeking sideways to see when the bird left the ground, then clicked as soon as he was in my viewfinder! Ha!

If you’re on a balcony, you might have quicker results than I did. Nevertheless, it’s a fun day to photograph our feathered friends. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate your comments and sharing your own experiences, Stephanae.

I like everything about mourning doves….except for their noise! How can such little birds be so loud? Lovely post and thank you for the follow.
