A new rescue and a new beginning — Breezi and me

We don’t forget our pets when they pass. (Cee-Cee died October 19, 2017.)

We must be aware when we take on the pets we choose that we will likely outlive them, and that losing them is part of loving them and establishing a family-like relationship with them.

And we must never forget that losing a pet doesn’t mean we shouldn’t adopt again.

Seeking a new relationship, not trying to return to an old one, is the point of rescue. We never forget the lost; they are part of our makeup, our memories, our lives.

But to rescue again means our hearts are rescued again, also, by a new personality and a new experience, which, in the end, we will cherish just as much as those we’ve previously lost.

National Mutt Day

In honor of US National Mutt Day, here is my adopted sweetie-pie, Cee-Cee, also known as BUCKEYE TUT-HUT-NUT-MUTT at http://www.chickensoupforbuckeyes.wordpress.com :

Cee-Cee came to live forever with me in October of 2010. She was in a foster home after being removed from a shelter one day away from her meeting with the Needle Man.

God bless those willing to act as foster parents for the sake of getting more dogs permanently adopted. Bonnie and Dale saved Cee-Cee for me!

Cee-Cee says, “Thanks, everyone, for giving me a second chance! Love you, Mom!”

Cee-Cee Watches the World Series

From 1972 to 1980, I lived in the state of Vermont, USA. A baseball fan, I found a companion who also loved the sport, and we took trips with my two children to Boston, Massachusetts, to watch the Boston Red Sox play ball!

This year, (2013), the Red Sox made it to the World Series and won that title for the third time since 2004. Unfortunately, those titles all came after I was long gone from Vermont and living back in my native Ohio!

However, my little faithful “lapper” rescue, Cee-Cee, was my fellow rooter as I watched this year’s Series. She really enjoyed it, so I let her give her version of how it all went for our Red Sox!

“C’mon, Mom! It’s starting!”

IMG_5774 (1024x768)

“Hmmm…What’s happening now, Mom?”

IMG_5764 (1024x768)

“Mom, this is kind of a slow-type of ball-playing game, isn’t it?”

IMG_5678 (1024x768)

“Sooo slooow!”

IMG_5764 (1024x768)

“Mom, why do they call it the World Series? These teams are from Boston and St. Louis in the USA.”

IMG_5675 (800x600)

“Okay, I see. He got a hit. Drew…”

IMG_5684 (1024x768)

“No, I’m awake. Promise…”

IMG_5772 (1024x768)

“What? A home run! We’re way ahead now, aren’t we? Six to zero!”

IMG_5770 (800x600)

“It’s almost over!? One more pitch?!”

IMG_5822

“Wow, Mom, they’re all over the field! They’re celebrating, aren’t they? That means they won, right? World Champions! Wow!”

IMG_5798 (800x600)

“This is sooo exciting… Zzzzzzzzzzz… Wha’ ?? Yeah… Zzzzzzz… Glad they won, Mom… Zzzzzzzzzzz…”

A Tale of Ill Will

A young Newfoundland poses beside her favorite subject — water. In recent history, the only Newfie to win at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was “Josh”, in 2004.

The Kennel Club circuits were the backdrop for the writing of author Albert Payson Terhune in his book Lad: A Dog, first published in 1919, with the copyright renewed in 1947. Lad was a collie, and Terhune let him do some of the thinking in his tale of dog shows and collie ways.

Dog show villians always appeared in Terhune’s stories.

But I’m not sure that any of Terhune’s bad guys were as bad as the secret poisoning perpetrator(s) that allegedly penetrated this season’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden on February 12, 2013. Dog owner Lynette Blue, who owned Cruz, a prized Samoyed contestant, continues to insist that someone poisoned her pet deliberately while he competed at MSG.

Cruz died four days after the Westminster show while competing in Colorado. Cruz’s death on February 16 has not been the subject of much interest outside the dog show world…unfortunately.

Perhaps we need to revisit Terhune’s long ago messages.
