Mourning Doves Nest

A pair of Mourning Doves were busy nesting in the back yard this morning. The pair worked tirelessly and quickly to haul large branches and branches loaded with leaves to their perch in a tree at the side of our apartment building. One bird stayed in the nest to arrange and rearrange delivered material, while the other acted as the delivery man.

Here are some highlights from their endeavor, including a couple of fly-in and fly-outs.

A Late Dinner Opportunity

“I tell ya, Maude, the dog is dead. Let’s get dinner.”

(Cee-Cee only sleeps.)

“Not so fast, Roy. Take a look now!”

(Cee-Cee awakens and looks up…)

“It’s not dead at all, and it tipped over that bench. Too much for me! Let’s get outta here!”

“Hey, Mom, lots of birds are flying overhead!”

“So I see. Should we take some pictures?”

“You bet! At the bridge?”

“We’ll get a few here in the yard first. They’re really coming over!”

“Look, Marge, there’s the Pup and that red-hooded thing again!”

“Yes, Red is pointing that black thing at us again, too. Fly higher, over the trees!”

“Mom, they’re going higher!”

“Yes. Let’s go to the bridge for better photos.”

“They come pretty low at the bridge sometimes, don’t they, Mom?”

“Exactly!”

“See? I told you. They follow us to the bridge!”

“Aha, I told you back! The red thing is just the Pup’s human.”

“Whoa! Haha! That was a close one!”

“Herman! You clown! Don’t get so close!”

“C’mon, Marge. Swoop’em! It’s fun!”

“See? Isn’t this great?!”

“It’s dangerous, Herman!”

“Ah, look, the Pup’s getting tired. They’ll leave soon. We’ll go higher and disappear into the cloudy sky. C’mon.”

“Mom?”

“Yes, Sweetie Pie?”

“Are you almost done?”

“Getting bored? Okay, just a couple more.”

“All right, Mom…

but you always say that…”

Oh, My Sher-ee

Some animals find their mates the same way some humans do — by hanging around the water.

“Oh, my Sher–ee… Wherever can you be?”

“Ah, my Sher–ee! Don’t hide from me. I will catch you a delicious fish.”

“Yes, Sher–ee! Come swim with me!”

“Now… My Sher–ee, isn’t this nice? And I do love you so!”

“Oh, Sher–ee; you’ll come away with me? Ah, yes, my Sher–ee, we will make a fam-i-ly!”
